Title | Chef Julie Yoon | Your Kitchen Coach |
Description | Do kitchen tools have to be expensive in order to be good quality? You know that as your kitchen coach I'm always looking for affordable and reliable options for you, so I decided to do an unboxing and candid review video of some kitchen tools from Deiss Kitchenware. This post is not sponsored, but I did receive the items for free. They are a small and young company that was created in Germany, and you can buy their products off of Amazon. I especially resonate with their motto: We believe it's easy to cook with pleasure and the kitchen can become a favorite place. It all started with a fine grater that they sent me a while back with no strings attached. I tucked it away in my drawer for a while until one day I decided to use it to grate some garlic for a dressing...and I was stunned. I couldn't believe I hadn't been using it this entire time! You know I already love my Microplane, but I was seriously impressed at how sharp the Deiss grater was. So when they recently decided to send me a whole BOX of goodies, including the wide grater from their pro line, I knew I had to unbox and review them on camera for you. If you want to see my true reactions as I test out what I got for the first time, and check out some affordable kitchen tool options, then watch our video: Affordable Kitchen Tools from Deiss Kitchenware Unboxing + Review Here's what they sent me: 1. Pro Citrus Zester and Cheese Grater {Narrow} I think this one is good for grating Parmesan cheese and zest, and is similar to the design and function of the Microplane brand fine grater. It works great for dishes like Rigatoni with Grilled Sausage and Broccoli. 2. Pro Citrus Zester and Cheese Grater {Wide} This one is good for grating things like garlic, ginger, and chocolate. It makes really gorgeous curls. You can use it for Parmesan cheese too, but it won't be as fine. It has a rubber stop at the end to help you hold it at an angle and rest it on your cutting board. 3. Pro Julienne and Vegetable Peeler I prefer the julienne side over the peeler side, but it's still a convenient 2-in-1 tool. You can peel your carrot and make julienne strips with one tool. The julienne side works well when you use shorter strokes. This is an easy way to make julienne cuts for recipes like my Bahn Mi Hot Dogs or Jjapaguri. 4. Pro Digital Thermometer It has the swing out probe, with automatic on/off function and LCD backlight, just like my trusty Lavatools Javelin Pro, but at less than half the cost! Keep in mind, it does not have an ambidextrous screen like my Javelin Pro, but it's waterproof and magnetic, which means you can keep it on your fridge so it's always within reach! 5. Premium Silicone Collapsible Funnels This 2-piece set surprised me by how tiny the funnels are. They are meant for transferring liquids and spices into narrow neck bottles. The silicone material makes them easy to clean, and they collapse to save space in your drawer. 6. Art Apple Slicer and Corer Set I never had an apple slicer before, but I can see how it can be convenient, especially if you're a mom like me and your kid always wants a snack. It removes the core and slices the apple in one move. The apple corer is great for when you want to remove just the core and keep the apple intact. This is useful when making apple fritters or apple rings. Try putting peanut butter and raisins or Chunky Almond Granola on top of an apple ring for an easy healthy snack! 7. Pro Multipurpose Kitchen Shears In the video you can clearly see that I was surprised by these kitchen shears twice, because they were magnetic and then they transformed into a knife! Upon closer inspection I realized they were designed as a multi-function tool. I was just pleased to find reliable kitchen shears at an affordable price. 8. Premium 5-Piece Nylon Utensil Set I haven't been able to use these yet, but they will replace my old broken plastic utensils when we move. They're made of Nylon, BPA-free, nonstick, and claim to hold up to 480ºF (according to Amazon). They're much more lightweight than I expected and feel like hard plastic. I don't know how I feel about that, but they make a lot of good claims while coming at an affordable price. I'll keep you updated about how they perform as I use them. Because of my own curiosity, I reached out to Deiss and asked how exactly they are able to make these tools so budget-friendly without being "cheap." Even when you read the reviews on Amazon, others feel like they've stumbled upon a hidden secret as well! According to the company, they said, "We're a small and young brand that was created in Germany. Our tools are a nice combination of European design and Chinese production. That allows us to provide customers with affordable but high-quality products. We vote for the idea that 'anyone can cook,' so our tools are simple and handy." On another note, I love that when you go to their website, it says, "By the way, do you know what is the advantage of small companies? We bend over backwards to make you happy." I love that, don't you? I am particularly fond of their simple design, and many of the items genuinely surprised me, like the magnetic digital thermometer that's less than half the cost of my Javelin Pro which I love, kitchen shears that are also a vegetable peeler, bottle opener, fish scaler, knife, and nut cracker, and the dual julienne and vegetable peeler which performs exceptionally well on zucchini, like when making my Summer Veggie Spaghetti. Since I've only really been using the fine graters and kitchen shears, while we're in the midst of moving, I have the rest of the items tucked away for now. Only time will tell if these tools will hold up to the reviews and comments. I'm always honest with you, so if there's something I particularly love, I'll let you know in our videos going forward. I just thought this was a fun way to encourage you to keep an open mind for some affordable kitchen tools. It's true that anyone can cook, regardless of their budget. You just have to start somewhere! By the way, these products are affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you do end up purchasing theses products at no extra cost to you. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about these products. |
